A must for med tox

Great reference book - used it for a med tox rotation and it was small enough to carry around but packed with everything I possible could've needed on the rotation.

medical writing at its best

Dr Goldfrank has published previous editions of this book and they have been gigantic textbooks that will teach you while at the same time strengthen your arm and shoulder muscles from the sheer weight of them.

Here we now have a one thousand page paperback size book that is a delight to hold and read, especially since the contributors are excellent writers.

I'm not an MD but love learning medicine. This book will help you understand disease processes through the lens of toxic substances, their effect on the body, and their treatments.

I noticed the text discusses poisoning by Aluminum Phosphide (ALP), which can come in small wafers and, when set inside a grain storage container, will kill rodents, etc. Aluminum Phosphide is being used in India in epidemic proportions for suicides. At a website (jkscience.org) for Indian doctors I found a paper from doctors who, as you might expect, have a great deal of experience treating Aluminum Phosphide poisonings. One recommendation is to give 400 mg hydrocortisone IV every 4-6 hours to ALP victims which these doctors claims is essential for recovery considering the adrenal gland, which produces hydrocortisone, is often severely damaged in ALP poisoning. That is certainly the highest dose I've ever heard of, but it is hard to argue with the voice of experience. Goldfrank's doesn't mention using hydrocortisone in the treatment of ALP and maybe they should. Nor is treatment with magnesium sulfate mentioned in Goldfrank's Manual, which treatment is a mainstay of Indian doctors.

After reading 3 other sleep books this one finally worked!

I bought this book because my husband and I were up all night with our 7 month old baby who has only slept through the night (7-8

hours at most) a handful of times since he was born.

He also had to be bounced over and over and over to get him to go to sleep or be breastfed. He only took 30 minute naps during the day, and he took 4-5 naps a day!!! I also have a 2 year old to chase around so I have been a walking zombie for the past 7 months!!

I already tried Weisbluth, Pantley and another sleep book and none of them worked. I read your book and thought that I would at least try putting him on the eating every 4 hour schedule and not letting him fall asleep and then slowly try (maybe) to work on naps and then maybe on the letting him put himself to sleep part. I wasn't at all expecting to be sitting here 4 days later at 8:00 pm with my baby sound asleep (who also put himself to sleep ) typing on the computer! I thought that there was no way that my very needy baby would ever be able to put himself to sleep , to tell you the truth I really wasn't even considering trying!

The first day that I put him on the every 4 hour schedule he ate every

4 hours and took 2 naps at about 2 hours each and them slept for 11 hours only waking once but putting himself back to sleep. Every night since I have crossed my fingers and he has slept 11 to 12 hours straight through. My life feels so much different than it did last week!! He is a new baby and I am a new mom! Just wish I would have read this book earlier! It is short and easy to read, unlike the other books I read that go on & on for 300+ pages.

Great way to get your babies the nutrition they need.

We bought this book shortly after our twins were born, and applied the concepts after starting around week 2-4. We got our baby boys on a 4 hour schedule by week 3 and had them eating 4.5 ounces during that week. Right now they are about 4.5 weeks old and we are diligently tracking all of thier activity. Our boys are well nourished and growing well. Already 10 pound babies, which is a growth of 3 pounds since birth. Our boys are fast growers and since they are at least 10 pounds AND consuming at least 24 ounces of formula or breastmilk in 24 hours; sometimes they are consuming 27 - 30 ounces of expressed breastmilk. Couldn't be more pleased. We have had better success when we bottle fed our boys using expressed breastmilk since it is easier to measure what they are getting. We do still also breastfeed our boys about 4 - 6 times a week when we can. You will definitely achieve sleep success more easily if you are fairly regimented about training, and remain regimented until a schedule is well-established.

This method really works! We cleared it with our pediatrician first, as your baby needs to be steadily gaining weight in order to do this method. It took us about 3 weeks to set it from beginning to end, and now our daughter is 6 months old and we're so glad we did it. The one thing I didn't love about the book, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars, is that there is very little trouble-shooting advice. If things aren't going as they should or something unexpected comes up there's little guidance for it. We just took some guesses and stuck to the plan as much as possible and it eventually worked, though, so that was good enough for me.
