Yep, Science Is Sexy!

I have just finished reading "Chemical Moments" and I must compliment the author for a very enjoyable vignette of experiences. This is a provocative and comfortably erotic collection that evinces believable views of fascinating (classical definition) characters.

On my limited budget for entertainment, I am happy to acclaim this writers creativity. I look forward to future opportunities to enjoy such quality of craftsmanship.

Chemical Moments is an entertaining-to-read collection of short stories. I especially enjoyed the final chapter, where all the characters assembled for Anne and Christine's wedding.

A Fascinating Glimpse

This is a collection of short stories featuring women engaged in a variety of careers, searching for that special connection with another person, preferably female but occasionally male. The author uses his extensive knowledge of these careers and passions to script compelling stories, and I must admit I was up far too late some nights because I became so involved with the characters. Although each story stands alone, connections appear as the book progresses, and the final story unites all the individuals. Andeen use of detail adds richness to the stories, and I look forward to further writings by this talented author.

About the Author
Born in 1940, Joe DiBuduo grew up in Boston. He earned his GED at age 30, and a certificate in Creative Writing from Yavapai College at age 69. Books include collections of flash fiction and “flash-fiction poetry,” a children’s picture book, a young adult novel, Cryonic Man, and A Penis Manalogue, a mixed-genre narrative inspired by Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. His story,“The Night Café,” won a New Short Fiction Award from Jerry Jazz Musician.

Understanding the "Other Life"

The title of this memoir reflects the irony of this narrative, which follows in detail the path of a young boy who spends much of his first two decades of life committing petty theft and felony. Happily, the narrator never experiences the electric chair, but he tells of men he knew who faced it in the Cook County Jail in Chicago. The narration is in an unabashedly direct and colloquial voice and relates the hunger of his childhood which led him to steal as young as six years old. The narrator emerges throughout the narrative as (ironically) a kind-hearted person who loves children and animals but who will not turn away from a fight when challenged. We see him gradually give up the life of crime for a life of family, art and writing.

I recommend this book for its rendering of the harsh reality of the “other life” of poverty which many do not experience or realize.

A Necessary Tale, Warts and All

This memoir is a sometimes harrowing, sometimes funny, thoroughly engaging account of DiBuduo's impoverished upbringing in the Hano neighborhood of Boston in the 1940s and 50s. The narrative is brisk and deceptively easy to read (I literally almost couldn't put it down; finished it in two nights); "deceptively" because the writer takes a matter-of-fact, unsentimental, and unapologetic look at the brutal effects of growing up poor and hungry. Most of us have an intellectual understanding of what "being poor" means, but this story hammers home the raw experience of being born into a disadvantaged environment and a dysfunctional family. What struck me as most chilling about DiBuduo's descriptions was his nonchalant, that's-just-the-way-things-were, we-didn't-know-anything-different tone throughout the book. Theft and violence and deprivation and hopelessness formed his ideas of "normal," with no context or clue that a better life might be somewhere outside his immediate neighborhood. And unfortunately, it translates to our modern times: poverty in the world's wealthiest country remains an ugly stain on our national pride, we're still having discussions and mixed emotions around the tactics and prejudices of police officers, we still use our prison system to warehouse rather than rehabilitate. That DiBuduo survived his childhood and adolescence, and has even thrived in his later years, is a testament to his core decency, his resilience, and his open heart. This is one of my top five books of 2015. It's not a pretty story, but it's a necessary one.

You Have to Read This Book

Wow! This was a moving and enlightening book. Reading it reminded me of how I felt when I read Angela's Ashes...a glimpse into a life of poverty-- of being downtrodden and deprived and abused, and ultivately of survival and redemption. Joe had an innate goodness and ethicalness that was--in the end--strong enough to lead him away from a life of crime and drug and alcohol abuse. Do you think you could have pulled away like he did? I don't know if I could have, and lots of folks don't. If you have any bit of compassion, this book will open your heart even more. Children are still going hungry and being deprived in our country and, of course, all over the world, so Joe's story might give us all an idea of what they are going through, and what they may yet go through. You won't regret reading this book. It is well written and easy to read...a page-turner, really.

In order to call themselves good Christians, many people have drawn overly flexible boundaries (unwilling to say no, always accommodating others' needs) or overly rigid boundaries (to the point of being righteous and judgmental). Psychologists and inspirational speakers Cloud and Townsend show readers how to set reasonable boundaries in order to follow the true path of Christianity. This book has become immensely popular, most likely because it makes personal boundaries easier to define and is filled with spiritual purpose. Some cautions: the format can be overly self-helpish for such a complex discussion and the authors at one point imply that judicious spankings may be an acceptable form of setting boundaries with children. However, many Christians will probably find themselves grateful for this biblical context of boundaries. --Gail Hudson

Boundaries

I have not read such a good book like 'Boundaries' in such a long time and I purchased four of them to hand them out as it gives you such insight into how we can take control of our lives in being able to be honest with those around us when we choose to say "yes", or "no"; learning how to be real and be a friend to ourselves. When we are being used and manipulative by others comes down to our responsibility, not theirs, and we have no one to blame but ourselves if we let that happen. To not be a doormat is vital to our contentment, peace and happiness, and that takes effort on our part to learn what to do. Manipulation and guilt comes along and what do we do? we bend and give in and in the meantime and then we resent, which is not healthy! That is not God's way at all and it is all in our reach to learn how to take control and live.

I can't say how much this book changed my life. It was eye-opening, sometimes in a way that scared me. It showed me things about myself and about others that have helped me live in a different way, and see things in a new way. Love these gorgeous cards!

I had a reader work with these cards in a reading, and I loved them so much I bought a deck myself. They are so pretty, with fascinating photo close ups of the crystals on the back that can attract anybody. The pictures of the whole crystals and messages on the front are great. I just got them today and I can't wait to start reading with them myself!

This is New Age Ifa propaganda.

One star because I have to.

This is New Age Ifa propaganda. Biased, one sided one character propaganda. Many of the stories have been changed to fit the monotheistic Ifa religion that has emerged in the last 15 years. Stories that have been, and are codified in the Lucumi religion, have had the characters changed to fit the Orunmilla Monotheism of Nigerian Ifa.

Blatant prejudice against..well everything but african males by altering the stories and selecting only certain stories.
Reinforces the stereotype of women belong in the home cooking and popping out babies - All the female characters are made by the Main character Orunmilla to return to the home when in fact the stories have the stories I have been taught have the Female Orichas independent and strong.
Removes the divinity of the other Orishas with only Orunmilla being God. WRONG!
Despises and denigrates gay men.

It contains a lot of myths related with the religion, mainly. However the stories are too short, only a very small version of the original myth. The main purpose behind a Yoruba myth is not the story itself, but the values and ethic from religion and popular culture. Therefore as are, the stories in this book, you can't understand it. In fact, in my opinion, if you don't see the details and also in some cases stanzas you will have a very bad perception of the Yoruba culture. Then, I think, why this book? May be just a list if some yoruba myths, not all and with no deep content.
I apreciate a good job, but I can't say this book is one
